about my comrades

i would prefer to keep the irritating questions people ask to a minimum, and since i know most humans like to be as annoying as possible i have decided to “nip of the bud” and answer what i believe will be the most likely questions about my fellow fears.

you know how you have “representatives” of your states and counties and districts (or something, human politics make my mind hurt)? we are like that.

well, except for the much higher amount of metaphysics involved.

when you humans learned to be afraid of the myriad things that could kill, torment or otherwise harm you in incredibly terrible ways, we were born. not long after we made sure you stayed afraid of the myriad things that could kill, torment or otherwise harm you in incredibly terrible ways.

only natural, of course. we ensure our own continued existence, and ensure that humanity continues to fear. after all what would you be without fear? nothing. you are defined by your fears.

we do have rules, though. we agreed on these rules long ago when many of us were first created. I regret agreeing to these rules because dealing with them and having to spend time figuring out loopholes is annoying. the rules deal with how we interact with humanity and each other, mostly.

when the rules are broken or need arbitration we call on The Eye, the fear of guilt, judgement, and punishment. he punishes and kills humans for the guilt they feel over their actions, but to us he is the equivalent of a human judge. he constantly watches and observes, judging us and waiting for any breach of the rules he can punish. i think he gets off on it.

fears have their own domains, pocket dimensions that we carve out for ourselves so we have places to relax and torment our human victims. my domain is bliss, the afterlife, though i did not exactly create it like most other domains, and it is less a pocket dimension and more an extension of my very being.

we try to avoid actually entering each others domains, though. instead we tend to congregate in The Empty City, the fear of disorientation. The Empty City is, like me, one and the same as its domain. it is also the most neutral of the fears. in fact i think the only reason it follows the rules is because it does not care enough to break them.

now then, i have mentioned that i am the fear of dying. this is very true but I may have possibly, potentially neglected to mention i am not the only one with that title. not that it actually matters since i am without a doubt the best one, and the only one who is also the afterlife. though i unfortunately cannot claim the people killed by or as a result of other fears, which is very annoying.

the two other fears sharing my title that i have to deal with most are Azrael and the Dying Man. Azrael is the fear of the wrath of god and punishment for actions considered sins by the victims religion. despite the fact he is far more guilt based he still lays claim to my title of fear of the dying, claiming to be the fear of eternal damnation after death as well. a very hollow claim but not one i can do much about. he is very annoying to deal with, most especially since we tend to go after the same kind of victims, so i have to rush to claim them quickly before he gets his filthy hands on them.

he calls himself an angel of god. i am not sure if he actually believes this or is simply sticking to his theme but it is an odd thing to say when he is already essentially a deity.

The Dying Man is much easier to deal with seeing as he is no longer a singular entity, nor has he been for a long time. long ago the Dying Man was shattered, and no i cannot answer how or why  as explaining how or why he was shattered or even what he was like when he was while is against the rules. the many different shards all have their own abilities and personalities and goals and agendas, though they all usually work through possession and withering of human hosts. some tend to dislike me and try to interfere with me but they are easy to overpower, and others can be very useful for me. over all they fall under the umbrella title of fear of decay.

there are many more fears of course. The Wooden Girl, The Choir, The Trickster and The Black Dog. The Merryman, the Plague Doctor (who is having the time of his existence), The Vision, The Blind Man, and many many others. but i do not feel like talking about them right now. if and when i next interact with them you will hear more about them. until then i have preemptively answered the potential annoying questions i know would have been asked, so now i can move on to more entertaining things to blog about.

see you soon, one way or another.
